Chin and Ears:
Rhinoplasty
(Nose Reshaping):
This is of the most common and rewarding procedures in plastic surgery.
Typically, there is a hump on top of the nose, the tip is too prominent, and the
nose is too long and wide. This operation is usually done from the inside of the
nose so there are no scars to see. The top of the nose is leveled out by
removing the hump, the tip is refined, and the nose narrowed and shortened as
needed. Look at some Before and After Photographs.
Rhinoplasty
for non-Caucasians:
Occasionally, the bridge of
the nose is not prominent enough, usually in Asians or Blacks. An implant is
placed through incisions hidden in the nose or inner upper lip.
Chin
Advancement (Genioplasty):
A “weak” chin,
particularly in men, can be a significant deformity. Although one treatment
would be a chin implant, these implants may not be the best choice. They
frequently do not project enough. They may be too narrow. They are prone to move
out of position and wear away the underlying bone over time. A better approach
is frequently genioplasty. Here the chin bone is physically moved forward through an
incision in the mouth. No implant is necessary. The advancement is the
patient’s own bone. The change that this simple operation brings about can
dramatically change a patient’s life as well as his looks.
Ear
Reshaping (Otoplasty):
This procedure takes prominent
ears and puts them in a normal position closer to the head. This is done through
an incision behind the ear. This can be done safely in children as young as 5.
For many women, pierced ears cause earlobe ters that are very unsightly. This
can be repaired in the office under local anesthesia. Look at some Before and After Photographs.
