Face,
Neck, Brow & Eyes:
As we age the elastic fibers in
our skin decrease. Our skin stretches out and gravity allows the now loose skin
to sag and collect in the neck under the chin (particularly a problem for men),
in the jowls along the jaw line, in the eyelids where bags form under the eye
and skin overhanging the upper eyelids makes putting makeup on more difficult.
The brow begin to droop; the lines on our face grow deeper making women look
cross or angry. Fat around the eye cannot be held in by loosening tissue causing
bulging particularly under the eyes that look like large bags. Friends think we
have not been getting enough sleep. Overhead lighting at work makes things look
worse. The face and neck procedures address these problems.
Facelift:
Conventional facelift removes the excess skin of the neck and lower face
to give a cleaner, sharper, more youthful face and neck. The incisions are
hidden in the hair, behind the ears, and in natural creases. Excessive fat,
especially under the chin, is removed. Patients as young as in their 30s to
those in their 70s frequently benefit.

A new related procedure is the subperiosteal cheek lift performed through
the lower eyelids. This addresses the problem of the progressive descent with
age of the cheek soft tissue. This causes the orbits to look hollow and gaunt, a
look that we associate with old age. In addition, this is one of the few
operations that improves the nasolabial folds that deepen every year. This procedure may be performed alone or with a conventional
facelift.
Blepharoplasty
(Eyelids):
The excess skin and fat is
removed from the eyelids to give a crisp upper eyelid fold without skin overlap.
The bags are removed from the lower lids.
Asian
Eyelids:
Some Asian patients prefer to give their eyes a more open look by having
a higher upper eyelid fold created or raised. This can be done at different
levels on the upper lid depending on how
deep the patient wants the lids to appear. Look at some Before
and After Photographs.
Brow (Forehead) Lift:
This operation addresses the drooping of the brows with
age. Patients have been frequently removing the hairs in the lower part of the
brow to make the brow look higher. In addition to raising the brows, the frown
lines above the nose are almost eliminated. There are a number of different
surgical methods including hidden scalp incisions, upper eyelid incisions, and
endoscopic approaches.
